Ask Dr. Carter

When will construction begin on the renovation of the George E. Davis House?

I have been asking the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission the exact same question for months! Because the Davis House is designated as a historic landmark, we are working in concert with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Historic Landmarks Commission. The commission is actually managing the project, and I can assure you that the University is not the hold up. We have completed all actions required of us, including our portion of the funding. I have had several conversations with the commission’s staff. Dr. Dan Morrill, consulting director, said the following to me in an email on June 11: “The contractor was on site today. The initial changes will be tree removal. You will see changes in the next week.”

So, we shall see if it actually happens.
