Ask Dr. Carter

What is the amount of restricted funds and unrestricted funds raised during the 2012-13 fiscal year?

For the 2012-2013 fiscal year JCSU raised $12,567,000 in private funds.  Of that total, restricted funds totaled $10,342,000 and unrestricted funds totaled $2,225,000.

As the term indicates, restricted funds may be designated for specific purposes or projects. Our Comprehensive Campaign, for example, offers donors the flexibility to be more deliberate about their giving by:

  • supporting newly created or existing programs
  • funding the construction of new buildings or renovations to existing facilities
  • directing monies to meet immediate organizational needs or to support long-term endowments

The JCSU Fund, on the other hand, is unrestricted and goes to support every facet of the JCSU experience, including scholarships, student life, faculty/staff development, band, choir, physical space and facilities, as well as academic programming.  Unrestricted giving allows the University to respond to emerging campus needs at the discretion of the President and University leadership.  We often describe it by saying that unrestricted giving will go to the area(s) of greatest need.

JCSU needs and appreciates all giving as it supports our mission to uphold our rich tradition of excellence.
